Neko Harbor

February 13 (pm)

During lunch, we entered Andvord Bay, a short distance south of the Errera Channel, and stopped in Neko Harbor. This is truly a spectacular place. We went ashore near an abandoned Argentine refugio, now taken over by gentoo penguins. We landed on a boulder beach and explored the area.  Above the beach, we got to hike up throught hte deep snow of the Antarcitc continent (not just an island) and got to sit right on the edge of the polar ice cap. The views were striking! The slide down this afternoon was steep and long, and much faster then the one this morning. I got snow IN my wellies! In the evening, we sailed through beautiful Paradise Bay. It was Paradise: steep mountains and glaciers to the sides and icebergs all around. We enjoyed the cruise on the deck (drink in hand).

I mentioned the National Geographic Society RopeCam earlier - tonight was one of the deployments. I've collected images from several deployments and will be posting them here soon. These are images of the deployment itself - not what the ropecam recorded.
