The Routeburn Track is one of the designated "Great Walks" of New Zealand. We took the guided version, which included meals and lodging and three guides. Although this was definitely a challenging hike, by no means were we roughing it. The lodges included great views, hot showers, cooked meals, flush toilets, bunk beds and Pictionary.
The hike itself was three days, ranging from rainforests to alpine areas to glacier-carved valleys. The scenery and the company were fantastic! Every step was worth it.
