Edinburgh falls into two main areas divided by Princes Street, the city's busiest thoroughfare. The Old Town straddles the volcanic ridge between the castle and the Palace of the Holyrood, with most of the city's medievel history; and the New Town to the north, which evolved after 1767.
While in Edinburgh we had time for shopping, a tour of Edinburgh Castle, a trip through town and past the Palace of the Holyrood (closed for the Queen's visit), a climb up Sir Walter Scott's memorial, and a site-see of the Royal Mile. We also had a lovely opening banquet where we met the rest of the tour group and got to know our guide.
