This is really peaceful and beautiful area of England, unfortunately it was pouring down rain the entire time we were there, so there aren't too many photographs. The Lake District is where Beatrix Potter came up with the Peter Rabbit stories.
We took a driving tour of Glascow, Scotland's finest Victorian city. IT used to be known for its' industry, but now rivals Edinburgh in the arts. We spent a fantastic morning at the Burrell Collection which was given to the city in 1944 by Sir William Burrell (a wealthy shipping owner). The collection is very eclectic, with objects of major importance in numerous fields including medieval tapestries and stained glass, ancient civilizations and Oriental art. The collection also contains some Rembrandts just in case you were unimpressed.
From Glascow we traveled onto the Lake District itself. Lunch was at Country Manor House, a private home that is gracious enough to share some of its' history and hospitality with Tauck Tours. We stopped at Dove Cottage, William Wordsworth's home. We spend the next 2 nights at Langdale Country Club, with time for hiking, sightseeing and ping pong! The sightseeing included trips to Brantwood House (John Ruskins home), tea and scones at Jumpin' Jennys, and a ride on the Steam Yacht Gondola.
